Support when place part on floor

Good morning,

I try to use your floor function. But when i move my part on it, the support still go up to z=0.
And if i create support after moving to the part to the floor, it's the same.
Could yo explain me i have made a mistake or if it's a bug ?

open stl and place it
add support
duplicate the part with support
add roof
move the first one to the floor

aah i see. I completely misread your question.

It seems like the (relatively old) floor function doesn't like the new support types we introduced some months back. To be fair; the floor function is used less and less as printers kept getting bigger...

I'll look into this; but it's not functioning as it should.

What you can do; if you want to try it with V1336;

1. generate the supports on the platform z=0
2. select a support, then do menu -> mesh -> join supports to part (creates 1 unified mesh)
3. move the part to the other floor with the command for that.
   Not ideal; but will work.

Thanks for the trick and the correction.

Event if the screen become bigger, print during the night small height part, increase the productivity. So flore system is useful.

I try to support those part in 3 layer as shown in my picture. I dont wan't support on the top surface of the orange part. So il place some cone . I use boolen function to have just one part, some adjustem on surface without support or the overhang angle. I succeed to place everything quite well, My cone looks like you floor, support of the cone are the feet of cone.
But the problem is that some support go downward up to the plate. I thing the should stay in the overall x,y size of the cone.

I would like to constrain the support to te projected area of my parts...but i can't find how to do it.
It will help me to increse the number of part per plate

So my questions were, do you have an idea to manage support for that type of "floor" ? Is it possible to constrain support to the projected size of the part .

No we don't have any specific type for what you are trying to do.

Secondly; by definition; the support algoritm looks to prevent internal supporst at the cost of a bit larger XY space. Ideally you would have no internal supports; as post processing is usually more expensive than an extra printed part. (in general terms)

I think that in this case; assuming you want to do serial production; it might make sense to manually tweak the supports?

There are some command for manually adding single/internal supports. That should allow you to relatively quick redo these unwanted ones?

One last thought; i know you are trying to optimize build volume. But in my experience straight up printing is not always the best result. You will hit more print failures as you have large cross sectional surfaces.. so it really depends on how the printer handles these how good the result will be..
