Platform Closure Function

#1

Could we have some info as to how to use this, please? Some nice, detailed instructions?

Also, there used to be a height setting in the general section for lifting the model off the buildplate when entering support mode. It’s gone. Please can we have it back? Yes, I know about a similar setting for auto supports, but I (and a hell of a lot of other people) don’t use auto supports.

What? Formware, you add functionality, then give absolutely no information whatsoever on how to use it?

Hi,

Yes i got notified that this setting dissappeared. Working on it asap to get it back in.
Hopefully fixed tomorrow.

Platform closure -> see other comment. I will check if i can add it in else well tomorrow to upload a build platform… than you could use it in any machine.

Fyi, I’ve uploaded an updated installer that has a flexibility to set your own build platform or even generate one on the fly.

To do so go here:

You will then get something like this: (with a generated one)

Then additionally if you want to see what the ‘platform close’ command does you can activate the build platform:

It generates a ‘closure’ mesh (preview in grey) to print to make sure your supports are not floating in physical holes in the build platform.

This gives you the option to perforate your build platform. (Various OEM’s have this)

Additionally; documentation was already there for this feature; just not online on the website.
I will update those now.

btw… the reason for the command is that solving the problem (supports going through holes) the other way around is a difficult problem to solve.
One could theoretically move support feet to locations outside the holes.
But this would get more complicated if you want to nest as well.

Thanks, but it doesn’t work. I can’t select a custom stl file or enter a name in , and the generate option only works where the holes are in line in both X and Y directions. The Phrozen Transform plate isn’t like this, the rows are staggered like so:

o o o o o o
. o o o o o
o o o o o o

I had to copy my STL to the roaming profile appdata folder and add it by manually editing the settings.xml - a minor irritation that I can live with, looking forward to seeing how it works. Thanks for the good work and innovation!

Hi,

doesn’t work -> press the pencill to add a file of your liking. ?
I made the textbox readonly to prevent typo’s of users.
Maybe i should change that icon as well to a + sign…

Regarding the phrozen plate -> we don’t have all different build platforms at the moment.
I will put out a request to all our OEM’s to model their platforms perhaps.
Hence the ‘generate’ option -> to be able for users to see the purpose of this feature.

Should be fine to add jpeg to (specially for Moai users)

yep good idea. Will add it to the todolist. Should be be to much effort

Hi Elco. Ah! of course! The significance of the pencil didn’t penetrate at the time. I’m feeling suitably embarrassed!

I can share my STL model of the Transform platform with you if it helps? You can grab it from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4611937

cool thx! i’ve put it in the default machine.
