Sliced file is too big?

#1

Hi Elco, I noticed that after preparing supports for a tall part, the resulting sliced file turned out too big for the printer to handle (Saturn 4 Ultra). Is there a way to simplify the shape of the supports (3, 4, 6 sides instead of perfect cylinders). I think thats how other slicers manage not to increase the file size too much when adding supports.

Hi Gonzalo,

Yes there is; graphcis settings -> mesh detail. Just put it to lowest and it wlil only have 8 sides to a cylinder.

Saturn 4 -> it shouldn’t really matter as they are run length encoded images.
Compare it with PNG images. So if a cylinder is round, or hexagonal, it still needs say 50-60 rows of white pixels to store/display the data.

It should just be able to handle it.

kind regards
Elco

That made a world of a difference, much faster slicing and small files. Thank you, Elco!
